Personal Training

Meet YOUR goals, at YOUR pace, on YOUR schedule While we personally love the group classes that CrossFit DFW typically offers, we can can understand why some people would prefer coaching in a one on one environment. One on one coaching is for you if you: – have a weakness you want to work on – are overcoming an injury – prefer a more personal environment when you workout – desire personalized programming designed to suit you and your fitness and nutritional goals People looking for individual, focused attention often prefer to work one on one with a quality, knowledgeable coach. That attention can help push then through a sticking point in their training or particular body part they want to change. Workouts are tailored to their specific needs and nutritional concerns are addressed to achieve the clients goals. Personal training also provides a solid personal relationship where encouragement and…

Post-workout Nutrition

By | General CrossFit, Gym, News, Nutrition | No Comments

It never fails:  time is called, the WOD is over, athletes take a minute or two (or five!) to catch their breath and put away their equipment, then out come the shaker bottles filled with their recovery shake of choice. Many athletes at CrossFit DFW use some kind of shake and/or meal after the WOD to help their bodies recover from the work they just completed, and with good reason.  During the WOD, you are depleting energy stores in your tissues, as well as causing microscopic damage to your muscles and surrounding tissue.  This sounds bad, but it’s not……when your body repairs that damage post-WOD, the tissue becomes stronger, meaning that over time you’ll make gains in strength, speed, and/or endurance.  This result is why we workout, right? One of the best ways to help your body along in this rebuilding process is to eat a post-WOD meal after the…

Help For the Holidays

By | General CrossFit, News, Nutrition | No Comments

We’re almost one week into our holiday nutrition challenge, and have survived the first hurdle:  Thanksgiving Day.  How did you do?  I hope you made some good food choices, maybe got in a workout before or after your meal, and did treat yourself to one serving of your most favorite Thanksgiving treat! Now that we’re heading into the official holiday season with parties, shopping and all kinds of craziness, I thought I’d offer a few survival tips.  If you follow these guidelines, you will not gain the proverbial holiday weight, nor will you go crazy from sugar overload. First of all, review CFDFW Nutrition Guidelines.  While I don’t expect you to eat paleo-perfect during the holidays, it’s good to have a goal in mind and know which foods to limit (sugar!!!!) and which foods to stock up on (veggies and meat). Second, make a weekly menu plan.  Consider your schedule…

What’s on Your Plate?

By | News, Nutrition | No Comments

In classes at CrossFit DFW we talk a lot about functional movement, proper form and technique, the importance of pushing hard some days, and taking it easy when that nagging injury is flaring up. We talk about hand care, getting whipped by the jump rope and the infamous sit-up rash. What we don’t get to talk about often enough is nutrition. I once heard that your performance in the gym is 75% diet. What that means is that you can work your tail off at the gym, getting in a WOD 5-6 days a week, doing extra work at open gym and running a few miles on the weekend at home, and still hit a plateau in your performance. Yes, you’ll see some gains here and there, a small PR on a deadlift, a slightly faster Fran time, one more rep on your max-rep pullups……but those milestones will be fewer…
