Girls Week

By | General CrossFit, Gym, News

Every 6 months at CrossFit DFW we take a week to track our individual athletes progress by performing 6 benchmark workouts over 6 days.  These workouts are universal to all CrossFit and given names to honor some of the original CrossFit female athletes.  While we track progress throughout the year with other measurements, this bi-annual “Girls Week” is a tremendous snapshot of ones improved fitness as well as a week of butt-kicking workouts. October 7-12, 2013 – Fran, Annie, Grace, Helen, Elizabeth and Barbara will be visiting our box. You don’t want to miss them!

Rest Days

By | General CrossFit, Gym, News

I hate rest days.  There, I said it out loud.  I feel sluggish and lethargic.  My nutrition suffers.  It’s especially frustrating to be at the box coaching a WOD that I don’t get to do.  In truth I would rather workout every day. However, experience of listening to my body tells me that I need rest days.  I don’t have to like them but I do need them.  CrossFit HQ recommends 3 days on and 1 day off.  That just doesn’t work very well with a 7 day week.  My typical schedule is 3 days on, 1 day off, 2 days on and 1 day off.  The weeks that I have strayed from that and gone 4 or 5 days straight I feel it.  That 4th day is rough.  Everything feels heavy, I feel slow and my time/score usually reflects that. By | Gym, News, Uncategorized

It was May of 2008. A friend invited me to join him and some others at Keller High School for a “CrossFit” workout. I had never heard of CrossFit. At that point almost no one around here had. To my knowledge there were zero CrossFit gyms in the area. But after that first humbling workout I was hooked. After one more workout at KHS Courtney and I headed to Colorado for our summer camp season with Compass Wilderness. I became obsessed with CrossFit.com watching videos, reading articles and doing the CrossFit.com workouts as best I could with the limited equipment we had available in Colorado. Once we returned at the end of the summer Courtney and I continued to follow the main site workouts at 24 Hour Fitness. We got the craziest looks from people. We were told we were cheating with kipping pull-ups. Trainers told us what we were…

Do you know WodHopper?

By | Gym, News

So we all know how to enter our scores in the ipad, but do you know that Wodhopper app does so much more?  So let’s start using it to its full potential. First, you need to install the Wodhopper app  onto your smart phone.  This can be either an android or apple phone.  Start by going to the CrossFit DFW website in your favorite web browser.  At the top there will be buttons that say RSVP To Class or Utilities.  Click either one of those buttons. This will most likely open a new web page and that will give you instructions as to how you put it on your home screen.   After adding it to your home screen you can do several things.  By clicking the three lines in the top L hand corner you will see a menu that lets you go to three options: You can RSVP…
